The closest supermoon of the year will light the sky on November 5th, 2025, at 8:19am EST. Imagine living in ancient times where neither science nor language offered any explanation for the appearance of this orb, suddenly huge, clearly portending something.
Monthly full moons have traditionally been given names based on Native American, Colonial American, and European folklore. This week’s moon is known as the Beaver Moon. Adolescent boy jokes aside, this is the time of year when beavers shore up and begin to take shelter in their food-stocked lodges in preparation for winter (it’s also when North American fur traders trapped beavers for their thick, winter-ready pelts. Sniff).
So, what does it mean for you? Can you relate to, (again, joking aside), “beaver” energy?
If the energy prior to the 5th has felt a bit lit, you’re rolling with the stars. In the Celtic tradition, Samhain (Halloween) actually marks the New Year. What do we do in the New Year? We plan, we join gyms, start diets, make resolutions…busy as beavers, we are!
The Beaver Moon invites you to take a break. Plan a cozy night at home with some hot soup, a blankie, and loved ones (or a beloved book). Turn off anything distracting. When Mercury goes retrograde on the 9th, you’ll be plenty distracted. Use this time to level up your grounded defenses. Moreover, despite the annoying retrograde season (it’ll go direct again on the 29th), this is the beginning of the inward season, and now is your time to plant that seed for some deep, introspective work.
What beliefs are outdated? What can be put on the leaf pile?
What habits don’t exactly align with the nourishment of your body and soul?
What should you let in?
Tarot Medicine: The Four of Swords
Clients tend to recoil when this card appears in a reading. But look closely: the knight’s hands are in prayer position. The knight is resting. The three swords above may look disturbing, but consider that they are worries, fears, or the thoughts in your head. Are you going to let them fall and impale you, or can your meditative powers of rest and rejuvenation keep them suspended? And that sword under the bed? Myriad superstitions link a knife under the bed or your pillow with the ability to ward off nightmares, evil spirits, and pain. A sword just means it’s more powerful!
The Rx is clear: take it easy. Shore up your energy. Prepare for the inward season. Happy resting.
